Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is to promote the development of the rural economy at the hand of local labor and agriculture. We manufacture our own dairy products (cheese, yogurt…), honey, bread, and culture of the orange groves, and vegetables to provide our customers quality products. Our products are organic, homemade and homegrown.We also have an agreement with the Malagasy train railway, the FCE (Fianarantsoa Cote Est) line to Manakara to give you the best quality of service in terms of ticketing. Lastly, we have a development project in Andrambovato (3rd station after Sahambavy) to preserve the primary forest corridor linking the Ranomafana National Park to Andringintra.
Restaurant
For those who want an authentic Malagasy culinary experience, our menu offers Traditional Malagasy dishes as well as European dishes and grills. Our specialty dish is the wild duck hunted by the Lac Hotel founder Kim, and our irresistible ginger lake tilapia. You can enjoy these dishes in our panoramic restaurant or on our shady terraces by the lake. All our dishes are prepared from locally grown, fresh quality organic products. Most of our products come from our own personal, two hectares sized, vegetable garden and all of our breads, yogurt, cheese, are made in house.
The last train corridor
Living close to Sahambavy railway station, railroad life has become my daily life, and travelers' stories are a must-share story to share. The only passenger train line still operating in Madagascar, will start in a crunching metal of another age ... At 20 km / h, its cruising speed gives you time to admire the lush panoramas of the emerald forest. A trip not to be missed!
History
Our story begins when Kim and Olga Leong owners of the Lac Hotel bought a piece of land next to Lake Sahambavy many years ago. Along the lake they constructed a simple bungalow for their retirement. Olga who loves flowers was inspired to make the “Garden of Eden”. The garden was so beautiful that it attracted the attention of many tourists and FCE train passengers passing by. The attention brought forth by tourists gave birth to the idea of building a hotel. Many years after the construction of the hotel, Maggie, Kim and Olga’s oldest daughter returned to Madagascar to run the family business with her husband Sergi Formentin. Together as a family they continued to enhance the Lac Hotel with new ideas to ensure a unique and quality experience for all of their guests. Within fiften years the Lac Hotel has grown from one Bungalow to fifty Bungalows. Day after day, the history of Lac Hôtel continues to grow and the story continues to evolve till this day.
